54th Engineer Battalion (Combat), late 1960s (Source: James Henderson) The NATO 17 site was surrounded by a tall double fence enclosure. The photo showing the guard tower was taken in between the two fences, each topped with double concertina barbed wire. The site was located on a hill to the northwest of the post, almost directly above the village of Wildflecken. I think it was about 4 or 5 miles from the post on the road to some of the training areas.
